Compliance Week: Provide, Protect, Prevent & People

CNSI took last week to celebrate National Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week (#2016CCEW). And a true celebration it was! We followed the theme provided by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics—Provide, Protect and Prevent. We started by announcing our new program mascot, Kip the Compliance Mongoose. Why a mongoose? We were inspired by the classic tale of Riki Tiki Tavi in which the mongoose protects its family from threats, just like a strong Compliance program protects its employees, clients and assets. Kip made his debut appearance in a welcome video, greeted employees each day and delivered notepads that proudly display our values and program messages.

The week included daily communications highlighting important policy reminders and also gave employees a chance to engage through interactive games and quizzes. In one ‘Escape Room’ challenge, employees raced against the clock answering questions related to our updated Code of Ethics and Business Conduct. The company also hosted a “Meet the Hackers” event in which our Cyber Security team talked about their work, demoed some of their technologies and answered questions from the audience.

In addition to talking about the “things” that make up our Program, we added a day focused on our People—the employees that make our values come to life. We wrapped up the week by recognizing our Compliance Champions for their ethical behavior and commitment to compliance. These Champions were nominated by their managers and peers for their work in ensuring a culture of compliance. After all, no policy, training or resource can ensure an effective program without the people to support it.

Needless to say, it was a jammed packed week. But these five days are a mere representation of our ongoing dedication to having open and trusted communications, strong and consistent policies, and a no-tolerance for retaliation culture year ‘round. This program is at the core of who we are and how we operate, doing business the right way—always.
